
Newton Tabbed to SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee men's tennis sophomore James Newton has been named to the 2025 SEC Community Service Team, the conference announced Thursday.

Newton, an impactful leader in both his local and international community, serves as a member of the 10th annual VOLeaders Academy, developing leadership skills and engaging with the world around them.

Through this program, student-athletes learn how to positively impact their team, campus and local and global communities. The program aims to inspire individuals to use their passion for sport and influence to enact positive changes that transcend their athletic success. The Perth, Australia, native is currently taking multiple courses on developing cross-culture communication and leadership skills, preparing him for a multi-week venture to Brazil this summer where he will display skills learned in these courses and interact with individuals worldwide.

On the court, Newton holds an 18-11 career record in singles, including a 7-4 mark this season. For doubles play, the sophomore has tallied seven victories on the year, playing mainly alongside Shunsuke Mitsui and Jose Garcia.

Newton and the rest of the Vols are set to take on Texas A&M on Friday at 5 p.m. before hosting Texas at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. to round out the regular season. Both matches will take place at Barksdale Stadium.
