Spink Claims Gold in 200 Free on Day 4 of SECs

ATHENS, Ga. – The Lady Vols tallied three medals, including a gold, to spearhead day four of the SEC Championships.

The performance of the night went to Camille Spink, who won her second individual gold of the week and fifth of her career. Entering the meet as the favorite, Spink posted the fastest time in the field in the 200 free to win the event after placing second last year. She notched a mark of 1:42.06, which ranked second in school history.

Joining Spink on the podium was Olympian Brooklyn Douthwright, who medaled in the event for the third time in her career. The 2023 SEC Champion in the event clocked a time of 1:42.62 to win bronze. Julia Mrozinski placed seventh in the race (1:44.33).

Olympian Ella Jansen earned the first conference medal of her career, bringing home silver in the 400 IM thanks to a time of 4:01.61. That effort was good for the second-fastest time in school history, surpassing fellow Canadian Olympian Tess Cieplucha. Emily Brown also competed in the A final, taking sixth with the No. 5 time in program history at 4:05.17.

Notables
- In total, 20 Vols and Lady Vols competed in Wednesday's finals with a combined 11 A finalists, five B finalists and four C finalists. Eleven new top-10 times in school history were set.
- The men's 100 fly was loaded with Vols. Five UT swimmers competed in the event with four coming in the A final. The Big Orange were led by Harrison Lierz, who threw down the second-fastest time in school history at 44.67 to take fifth. He was followed by Gui Caribe in sixth, posting the No. 3 time in UT history at 44.76. Björn Kammann placed seventh, while Martin Espernberger rounded things out in eighth. In the B final, Micah Chambers came in 13th. Throughout the day, the group posted five of the top eight times in program history.
- Sara Stotler was the lone Lady Vol in the 100 fly finals, and she finished fifth after clocking the seventh-fastest time in school history at 51.50.
- Jordan Crooks took sixth in the 200 free behind a 1:31.88 effort.
- In the men's 3-meter diving event, Bennett Greene won the B final thanks to a score of 369.35, eclipsing 60 points on his final three dives. Owen Redfearn finished 19th overall in the event.
- Kate McCarville finished 12th in the 400 IM behind a time of 4:11.04.
- The Vols had three in the 400 IM finals. Tony Laurito finished 14th after posting the No. 4 time in school history during prelims (3:43.93). Gus Rothrock placed 18th with a personal-best effort and No. 5 mark in program history at 3:44.01. Aidan Crisci took 19th.
- Emily Armen finished 24th in the 200 free.
