Caroline Kerr Eclipses 3,000 Career Assists as #19 Lady Vols Earn Sweep over Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE -- The #19 Tennessee volleyball program picked up its sixth road victory of the season, earning the sweep over Vanderbilt (25-17, 25-22, 25-20).
The highlight of the match was Redshirt Junior Setter Caroline Kerr, who reached 3,000 assists in her collegiate career. Kerr joined a list of seven Lady Vols to have reached the career milestone. Kerr reached the mark in the third set, assisting the attack of Hayden Kubik to etch her name in the Tennessee record books. Kerr also reached 40+ assists for the 34th time in her career, finishing with 42. Kerr also led the team with a career-high six blocks.
Kerr helped lead a Tennessee offense that finished the match with 51 kills on a .449 hitting percentage, its second-highest hitting percentage on the season. On defense, the Lady Vols used 54 digs and seven blocks to hold the Vanderbilt attack in check en route to the win.
Hayden Kubik also reached a career milestone on the evening with her 500th career kill. Kubik led the team with 18 kills on .389 hitting. Joining her in double figures was Starr Williams, with 10 kills for her sixth double-digit kill effort of the campaign. Gülce Güçtekin led the team with 11 digs, while Mackenzie Plante had a strong evening with eight kills and six digs.
Tennessee used a pair of 4-0 runs to take the advantage in the first set, taking the early lead in the match. Kubik led the way with five kills, followed by the pair of Williams and Plante with four each. Kerr got her night started with 13 assists, while also leading the team with three blocks. The defense limited the opportunities for Vanderbilt in the first stanza, forcing seven errors and holding them to a .171 hitting percentage.
It was a back and forth affair in the second frame. Tennessee battled back after the Commodores to a two point advantage late in the second, finishing on 4-1 run to take a two set to none lead. Kubik led the team with another five kills, with Kerr feeding the offense with 13 more assists.Â
It was all Tennessee in the third, with the Lady Vols rushing out to a five-point lead early. Vanderbilt would mount a late comeback, but it was not enough as the Big Orange secured the match victory. Kubik finished her night with eight kills, leading an attack that netted 20 kills on .515 hitting. Kerr finished the evening with 16 assists, while also leading the defense with five digs and a block.
Up next the Lady Vols continue their road trip in Lexington to take on #2 Kentucky. First serve for the match is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
