#2 Tennessee Scores 14 on Valentine’s Day to Run-Rule Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – Nine extra-base hits fueled No. 2 Tennessee to a 14-0 run-rule victory on Valentine's Day as it defeated Kennesaw State on the road at Bailey Park.
Tennessee improves to 4-0 with the victory, with three wins coming in run-rule fashion.
Junior Sophia Nugent led the offense as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and a run scored. With Wednesday night's performance, Nugent has driven in four runs twice through UT's first four games.
Senior Giulia Koutsoyanopulos also went 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked a two-run home run in the fourth inning. The long ball was her first of the season. Koutsoyanopulos finished the night with three RBIs and one run scored.
Taylor Pannell rounded out UT's players with multi-RBIs as she drove in a pair of runs. The sophomore finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double.
Graduate outfielder Kiki Milloy roped two doubles as she went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. She also walked twice and stole two bases.
Sophomore Karlyn Pickens got the start in the circle, tossing three shutout innings. The hard-throwing righty allowed just one hit, struck out six and walked none as she earned her second win of the season.
Fellow sophomore Charli Orsini came on in relief, pitching the final two innings of the game. The Kellyville, New South Wales, Australia, native gave up just one hit, walked one and struck out one as she kept KSU off the board to preserve the shutout.
Kennesaw State (2-3) managed just two hits on the night but did threaten to score in the third with runners on first and third. Pickens was able to work out of the jam with an inning-ending strikeout to keep KSU off the scoreboard.
In the circle, Kenley Hilleary got the start for the Owls. She tossed 1.1 innings, allowing six runs – five earned – on six hits. She suffered the loss and is now 2-1 in 2024. Lindsey Kyte, Emma Friedel and Melanie Bennett all saw action out of the bullpen with the trio combining to surrender eight runs.
Tennessee started quickly Wednesday night as it scored three runs on four hits and an error in the game's opening frame. The Lady Vols continued to offensive onslaught in the second, pushing four runs across the plate.
In the fourth, UT scored six runs on three hits and an error to blow the game open. Tennessee added one final run in the fifth on a passed ball.
