Lady Vols Open Music City Scramble with Five Doubles Wins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team collected five doubles wins to open the 2020 fall season in the Music City Scramble.

"What an awesome feeling to be back on court with our team," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Every single player competed hard and for that reason, we got better."

The pair of senior Johanna Silva and sophomore Callie Creath earned the first win of the tournament for the Lady Vols. The pair downed the duo of Grace Ann Jones and Reka Zadori of Ole Miss 6-3 in their opening match. The duo followed with a 6-3 win over Auburn's Shir Azran and Yu Chen to stay perfect on the day.

Sophomore Carly Briggs and junior Daria Kuczer went 2-0 as a pair in the opening day of the fall season. They got started with a 6-4 win over Commodores Amanda Meyer and Anessa Lee and followed with a 6-4 victory over Auburn's Georgie Axon and Taylor Russo.

Senior Tenika McGiffin and freshman Esther Adeshina split their pair of doubles matches on the day. The duo fell 6-1 to Vanderbilt's Marcella Cruz and Holly Staff. McGiffin and Adeshina bounced back with a 6-2 victory over Carolyn Ansari and Selin Ovunc of Auburn to end the day for the Lady Vols.

The Lady Vols will continue play in the Music City Scramble on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
