Lady Vols Shut Out By #11 Auburn, 6-0

AUBURN, Ala. -- No. 8/12 Tennessee gave up one run in the second inning and five more in the fifth in a 6-0 loss to No. 11/13 Auburn on Sunday at Jane B. Moore Field.Â
For the second straight game, the Lady Vols (33-8, 5-7 SEC) were shut down offensively. Kaylee Carlson went a full seven innings for the Tigers (36-8, 9-6 SEC) and yielded just three hits in the shutout performance.Â
Auburn got on the board in the bottom of the second, as Makenna Dowell reached on a one-out walk and came all the way around to score on a double to left center from Morgan Podany.Â
The Tigers opened it up in the fifth with a five-run inning that was kicked off by Casey McCrackin sacrifice fly to score Victoria Draper from third. Courtney Shea then drilled an RBI double to left field, and Tannon Snow followed up with a single to get two runners on. Alyssa Rivera capped off the offensive outburst by taking a 1-1 pitch over the right center field fence for a three-run homer that increased the lead to 6-0.Â
Caylan Arnold took the loss for Tennessee and falls to 14-4 on the season. The sophomore went five innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs.Â
UP NEXT: The Lady Vols face an in-state test on Tuesday night as they take on Memphis at 7 p.m. in Columbia, Tenn.Â
