TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 7 Tennessee did something Saturday night that has never been done in program history: win a series on the road against Alabama. That all changed following the Lady Vols' dominant 13-3 win over the No. 17 Crimson Tide in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday night at Rhoades Stadium.
Tennessee (40-8, 10-7 SEC) was led by Chelsea Seggern, who finished the game with four of the team's 11 RBIs, and Meghan Gregg, who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored three runs.
The Big Orange got on the board first when Aubrey Leach scored on a heads-up play in the first inning after a ball was hit deep in the 3-4 hole.
Alabama (27-15, 7-10 SEC) then picked up runs in the bottom half of the first and second innings, when Sydney Booker scored on a single by Gabby Callaway and then, in the second, KB Sides scored on a RBI single to shortstop by Demi Turner.
The Lady Vols tied the game up at 2-2 in the top of the third when Jenna Holcomb scored on a Seggern single.
Tennessee was just getting started, plating four more runs in the top of the fourth. Haley Bearden got the scoring started by coming around on a throwing error by the pitcher. Holcomb then scored after Leach singled to left field.
Gregg followed with her 14th home run of the season to score two more runs for the Lady Vols and give them a 6-2 lead.
The Crimson Tide added one final run in the fourth when Carrigan Fain hit a solo home run over the left field wall.
Tennessee added seven runs over the next three innings, starting with a run in the fifth when Amanda Ayala hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Scarlet McSwain.
However, Tennessee was just getting started, pushing across three runs in the sixth when Abby Lockman singled through the right side and scored Gregg. Ayala then singled to center field and score McSwain and Lockman.
Seggern came up in the seventh and hit her fifth home run and 58th RBI of the season by hitting a 3-run home run over the wall in right center to score Gregg and Holcomb.
Caylan Arnold (19-4) picked up her 19th win of the season, as she tossed her fifth complete game of 2018. Arnold finished the game with six strikeouts and allowed only three earned runs.
Holcomb finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs and McSwain was 2-for-4 with two runs in the win.
