KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Meghan Gregg was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to bring in the game's only run as No. 7/10 Tennessee defeated No. 6/6 Georgia 1-0 on Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
The Lady Vols (31-4, 4-3 SEC) got in runners on in the final frame by drawing three consecutive walks with zero outs. By bringing in the winning run, Gregg notched her 242nd RBI of her stellar career at Tennessee, surpassing Tonya Callahan for the most in program history.
Matty Moss (14-1) earned the win for UT, as the junior closed out the final three innings with three strikeouts and one hit allowed. Caylan Arnold was in the circle for the first four innings, striking out five batters while yielding two hits. Brittany Gray was dealt her first loss of the season for the Bulldogs (30-4, 7-3 SEC), but had a strong performance in allowing just two hits and a run on the day.
Neither team gave up much defensively throughout the game. Scarlet McSwain played a sensational game in right field for the Lady Vols, making two remarkable catches, including one over the fence that she converted into a double play in the fourth inning.
Saturday was Tennessee's 11th time shutting out an opponent this season, and the first time Georgia has been held without a run since May 4, 2017. After spending the past two weeks on the road, the Lady Vols were treated to a crowd of 2,292 at Parker Lee Stadium.
UP NEXT: The Lady Vols and Bulldogs continue their series at Parker Lee Stadium with Game 2 on Sunday at 6 p.m.
