Ten Lady Vols Named Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tennessee Softball student-athletes were recognized for their excellence in the classroom Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), placing 10 on the 2017-18 Easton/NFCA Division I Scholar-Athlete list. As a team, the Lady Vols finished the year with a 3.55 cumulative grade point average.Â

Tennessee came in ranked 17th out of 107 teams on the NFCA's list with the 3.55 GPA. The Lady Vols had the second-highest team GPA in the SEC behind 10th-ranked Alabama, and they were the only two SEC teams ranked in the Top 20. Tennessee posted its highest semester team GPA in program history in May of this year with a 3.58, which marked consecutive semesters with a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the Lady Vols.

In all, over 6,280 student-athletes earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,600 student-athletes earning a 3.50 grade-point average or higher for the 2017-18 academic year, followed Division I with 1,311 and Division II with 1,026 honorees. High school unweighted earned 743 and 589 distinctions. Two-year colleges amassed 553 recipients and NAIA totaled 456.Â

In May, Gregg earned a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Softball second team, recognized for her combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Gregg finished with a 3.68 GPA and a degree in Kinesiology, and she is currently attending the University of Georgia's School of Pharmacy. Â
