Vols Shut Out by Georgia, 4-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Despite a hard-fought match, the No. 23 Tennessee women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to third-ranked Georgia at Barksdale Stadium on Saturday.
"Overall, our team did a great job," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We are focusing a lot on singles because 86 percent of the points depend on them. In singles, our girls brought the energy and fought hard. What makes Georgia great is that when our engine is `red lining,' they have another gear they can shift in to. I'm very proud of our team, and as we have said all season, we are on the right track. Everyday, we get the chance to practice. We are taking advantage of that opportunity and improving in every aspect of the game."
The Vols (15-8, 2-7 SEC) got down early, dropping the doubles point to the Bulldogs. The 68th-ranked doubles team of Marta Gonzalez and Mariana Gould defeated Eve Repic and Ariadna Riley, 6-1, to get things going. UGA clinched doubles with a 6-2 win on Court 1 by the No. 18 duo of Ellen Perez and Caroline Brinson over Sadie Hammond and Gabby Schuck.
In singles, UT showed some fight, winning the first set on Court 2 and forcing first-set tiebreakers on three other courts. The Volunteers were unable to convert on the opportunity, though, dropping all three of the tiebreakers and losing all momentum in the match.
Tennessee is back on the road next weekend, travelling to Missouri on Friday and Arkansas on Sunday.
