INDIANAPOLIS -- With sophomore Joey Reilman posting a career best leadoff time, Tennessee opened the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with a 21st-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle Wednesday at IU Natatorium.
The Tennessee team of Reilman, Marc Hinawi, Sam McHugh and Austin Hirstein recorded a season-best time of 6 minutes, 22.18 seconds.
Reilman led off the relay with a split of 1:33.47, a career best and the third-fastest 200 freestyle time in program history.
The NCAA meet begins in earnest Thursday with the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and 1-meter diving. Prelims are at 10 a.m. and finals are at 6 p.m.
