Vines Shines in USA Softball Debut

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Following a stellar freshman season with Tennessee, standout outfielder Brooke Vines also made her presence known on the international stage over the past week, helping the USA Softball Elite team reach the Bronze Medal Game at the World Cup of Softball XI in Oklahoma City.
Vines scored a run in each of the team’s first four games as the Red, White and Blue got off to a 4-0 start with wins over the Czech Republic (13-2), Mexico (17-0), Canada (8-4) and New Zealand (13-0). The Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., native’s best game came against New Zealand, as she went 1-for-1 with a run, two RBIs and a pair of walks. She finished the tournament with two hits, four runs, two RBIs and two walks in four games played.
The U.S. fell to Australia in the Bronze Medal Game, 4-3, after issuing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Vines is coming off a fantastic freshman season for the Vols where she earned numerous accolades including All-SEC Freshman Team and NFCA All-Southeast Region third team honors. She batted .360 on the year, led UT with four triples and tied for second on the team with 63 hits and 19 stolen bases.
