Vols Drop Conference Opener

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team dropped its SEC opener against No. 25 Mississippi State, 6-1, at A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre Friday.
The Vols (6-5, 0-1) lost the doubles point, and the Bulldogs (10-1, 1-0) wouldn't let up, continuing their moment in singles by taking five of the six courts to win the match.
The duo of freshman Kim Kermet and junior Brittany Lindl fell to the duo of Jasmine Lee and Louise Ronaldson, 6-3, on Court 2. The team of senior Tiffany Tavares and freshman Mary Caroline Meredith lost in their match against the 53rd-ranked duo of Jennifer Brown and Kristina Vozniak, 6-2, on Court 3.
In singles, junior Eve Repic was the lone Vol to win a match, beating Madison Harrison in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (8), on Court 2. Freshman Sadie Hammond, Kermet and Meredith all fell in matches against ranked opponents.
Tennessee will be back in action Sunday, as the Volunteers travel to Oxford to face the 26th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels at 2 p.m. ET at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
