Repic, Lindl Win Doubles Title at Fall Invite
October 30, 2016 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Despite dropping their match on Sunday at Goodfriend Tennis Center, the senior duo Brittany Lindl and Eve Repic claimed the doubles title for the Tennessee Fall Invite.
The Vols fell to Ohio State's Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus, 6-2, but won the title after going 4-1 together on the weekend. Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams were the last Vols to win the doubles title, doing so in 2014. Ohio State's Miho Kowase won the singles title for the event.
In doubles, sophomore Sadie Hammond and redshirt freshman Gabby Schuck picked up a huge win, beating the fifth-ranked doubles team in the ITA preseason rankings of Kowase and Anna Sanford, 6-4.
For singles, Repic and freshman Ariadna Riley picked up wins against Wake Forest. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Repic bounced back to beat Anna Ulyashchenko, 6-7 (6), 6-0, 6-3. Riley held off Chandler Carter in a back-and-forth 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 match.
This concludes the fall season for Tennessee. The Vols will be back in action to compete in the Michigan Invite on Jan. 14-16 in Ann Arbor. After that, the team will return home the following weekend to begin team play with doubleheaders against Air Force and Middle Tennessee on Saturday and Wake Forest and Chattanooga on Sunday.
