KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Cali Hutson scored in the 19th minute and Amy Neal and Anna McClung added second-half goals to give Tennessee a 3-0 victory over Navy on Friday at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Tennessee (2-0-3) outshot Navy (2-3-0) 24-9 with 10 shots on goal. Reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week Julie Eckel (2-0-3) was masterful in goal once again, posting three saves to lead the UT defense to its fourth shutout of the season.
The Vols' three goals on Friday matched their season total entering the contest.
McClung's strike in the 67th minute soared in from the front left corner of the box over Navy goalkeeper Dayton Wetherby (1-3-0). The goal was her second on the year and the Gate City, Va., native has been involved on four (two goals, two assists) of UT's six goals this year. Meghan Flynn stole the ball 35 yards out and made a move into the left side of the box before dishing it out to McClung for the shot from distance.
UT's defense was more organized coming out of halftime and the team's energy early on paid off when Neal scored in the 49th minute off of passes from Anna Bialczak and Emily Morrow. Morrow sent the ball in from the left side and Neal punched it in near the right post for her second goal on the season.
Tennessee enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to Hutson's 19th-minute score. Hutson gathered a ball off a deflection from Bialczak in the middle of the box and fired from the left side to the right post for her first goal on the year.
The Vols host Murray State on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Regal Soccer Stadium with a live online broadcast via SEC Network +/WatchESPN.
