CORAL SPRING, Fla. -- Tennessee women's golf had three players named on the the Women's Golf Coaches Association(WGCA) All-American Scholars Team for 2014-15. Lucia Polo, Anna Newell and Blakesly Warren were announced as three of the 758 women's collegiate golfers recognized with the prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most rigorous in college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA for the honor is 3.50.
"I'm so proud of Lucia, Anna and Blakesly for being named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team," head coach Judi Pavon said. "The award requires a 3.50 cumulative GPA so these ladies have been high achievers in the classroom as well as on the golf course. I appreciate their hard work and commitment to always doing their best."
Polo, an upcoming junior, had a standout season with the Vols, earning All-SEC Second Team and Golfweek All-American Honorable Mention honors. Polo was also named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. During her sophomore campaign, Polo played in 11 events and was a major part of the Vols team that finished in a fifth place tie at the NCAA National Championships in Bradenton, Florida. At the NCAA San Antonio Regional, Polo shot her first career round under 70 with a 69. She finished in a tie for sixth place at the event.
Newell led the Vols with the lowest season average and was named to the All-SEC Second Team, All-SEC Freshman Team and was named All-American Honorable Mention for both WGCA and Golfweek. Newell participated in every event during her freshman season. She had four top five finishes, including a runner-up finish at the GolfWeek Conference Challenge. Newell shot the seventh lowest round in program history (67) at that same event.
Warren played in five events as a freshman, recording a career low round of 73 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, where she finished in a tie for 11th place.
