Women's Tennis Wins First SEC Match

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Tennessee Lady Vols (9-11, 1-7) picked up their first conference victory of the season in a 4-1 win against the Missouri Tigers (8-12, 0-8) at the Mizzou Tennis Complex on Friday.
In doubles, the Tigers had the first strike of the match as the duo of Cassidy Spearman and Beatriz Machado Santos beat junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Victoria Olivarez 8-1. The senior team of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams, the No. 45 doubles team in the country, tied things up for Tennessee as they defeated Alex Clark and Brianna Lashway 8-5, leaving it up to court 2 to decide the doubles point.
After being down 6-3, the sophomore duo of Eve Repic and Laurence Guevremont stormed back to win their match 8-7 over Brittany Lashway and Madison Rhyner, clinching the doubles point for Tennessee and snapping the duo's losing streak.
In singles, Repic gave Tennessee a 2-0 lead, following a 6-0, 6-4 win against Cassidy Spearman. After Brianna Lashway defeated Laurence Guevremont 6-1, 7-5, Tennessee closed out the match by winning the next three matches. Henderson defeated Kelli Hine 7-6, 6-1 on court 1, and it was Williams who clinched the match for the Lady Vols, picking up her first SEC win of the season in a 7-5, 6-1 win.
Olivarez and Tavares both went unfinished in their first sets. Olivarez led 3-2, and Tavares was tied 1-1.
Tennessee will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 1 p.m.
