Tavares Clinches Match for Lady Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols snapped their three-match skid after defeating the Chattanooga Mocs 4-3 at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The match came down to the wire as the teams were even at 3-3 with junior Tiffany Tavares still playing in a tight third set against Samantha Caswell.
Tied at 4-4 in the third set, Tavares was able to break serve, allowing her to win the match on serve after Caswell hit a couple in the net and hit one out to end the match. The win for Tavares clinched the victory for Tennessee, which improved to 7-4 on the season.
Also in singles, senior Joanna Henderson and sophomore Eve Repic won in quick, two-set matches to help build the Tennessee lead.
After retiring early in her match yesterday, sophomore Laurence Guevremont was held from the lineup, forcing the Lady Vols to forfeit a match in singles.
In doubles, Henderson and fellow senior Caitlyn Williams cruised to an easy 6-2 victory over the duo of Caswell and Jones. Repic and sophomore Victoria Olivarez won in their first match played together on the season against the team of Chadwell and Coots 6-3, clinching the doubles point for the Lady Vols, who are now 7-0 when winning the doubles point.
The Volunteers will face Belmont at 3 p.m. today in the second match of the doubleheader.
