Volleyball Loses to Auburn at Home, 3-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Volunteers volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-21) to Auburn on Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Erica Treiber, who was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team earlier in the day, led the Vols with seven kills, hitting .875 for the match. She also had a team-leading five blocks.
Playing their first match in 10 days, the Vols (20-12, 6-11 SEC) suffered their sixth consecutive loss. Auburn (18-11, 10-7) has won six of its last seven matches.
Tennessee concludes the season on Friday, hosting Georgia at 7 p.m. Eastern. The team will honor seniors Lexi Dempsey and Megan Hatcher before the match.
In the first set, Auburn broke away with a 13-0 run to take a 16-5 lead. The Tigers led by as many as 12 points and eventually closed out the set 25-13 with a kill by Brenna McIlroy. Auburn hit .407 for the set while the Vols had only seven kills and nine errors, hitting -.059.
Auburn went on a 7-1 run early in the second set to take a 10-5 lead on a kill. The Tigers led the rest of the set, eventually going ahead by 11 points. Breana Barksdale's block on an attack by Kanisha Jimenez finished the set at 25-14.
In the third set, Auburn went on an 8-2 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Tigers opened up a seven-point lead at 21-14, but the Vols reeled off five of six points to close the gap to 22-19 on an Auburn error. The Vols could not cut the lead closer and a sneak attack by setter Alexa Filley ended the match at 25-21.
Auburn hit .341 for the match. Tennessee's hitting percentage was .021.
The Tigers out-dug Tennessee 40 to 35. Brooke Schumacher led Tennessee with 12 digs. The Tigers had 10 blocks, compared to five for the Vols. Treiber had a hand in all five of UT's blocks.
