Lady Vols Start Slow in Fall Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols started off slow in day one of the Tennessee Fall Invitational with losses to Ohio State in doubles and Kentucky in singles.
The dual-meet style tournament began with doubles action for Tennessee as they took on Ohio State.
Seniors Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams defeated Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus in an easy 8-2 win.
The other two doubles teams didn't fare as well against their opponents. Sophomores Brittany Lindl and Victoria Olivarez fell to Miho Kowase and Ferny Angeles Paz, 8-5. Junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Laurence Guevremont lost 8-3 to Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed.
Singles didn't favor the Lady Vols either as they only took two out of five matches.
Henderson played a close match that went into the tiebreaker. She eventually pulled away, though, with a 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (4) win. Olivarez was the first to win out of all the matches. She breezed past Kentucky's Stephanie Fox for a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Lindl, who was playing as the No. 2 seed for the Lady Vols, dropped a tough one after falling behind early in a 6-1, 7-6 loss. Tavares and Guevremont both jumped out to early leads by winning the first sets, but in the end, they fell in their second sets and tiebreakers.
With one day of matches finished, the Lady Vols will look to rebound tomorrow during day two of the Tennessee Fall Invitational.
Matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Goodfriend Tennis Center with Kentucky and ETSU facing off in singles. The Lady Vols are scheduled to play ETSU in doubles at 12:00 p.m. and Ohio State in singles at 1:00 p.m.
