Seven Lady Vols Named NFCA Scholar Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Tennessee softball team netted seven 2013-14 NFCA NCAA Division I All-America Scholar Athletes, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday.
Ellen Renfroe, Madison Shipman, Jennifer Burroughs, Erin Gabriel, Hannah McDonald, Hannah Devotie and Megan Geer were all named to NFCA NCAA Division I All-America Scholar Athletes for having GPAs of 3.50 or higher during the 2013-14 academic year.
Tennessee boasted a 3.11 team GPA for the 2013-14 academic year and was recognized as a 2013-14 NFCA NCAA Division I All-Academic Team. UT was one of 98 Division I softball teams with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
NCAA Division I, with 1,096 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,005 players in NCAA Division III scored recognition, followed by 741 in the High School Unweighted category. In all, 408 different schools scored academic honors.
