THE SERIES
- Sunday marks the 69th meeting all-time between Tennessee and Georgia and will be the 29th match of the series played in Athens. UT leads the series 42-26, but is 14-14 in matches played at Georgia. UGA won both matches last season to snap what had been a four-match winning streak for the Lady Vols.
- Nov. 3, 2013: The last meeting between the two programs, Tennessee dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bulldogs in Thompson-Boling Arena. It was the first win for Georgia in Knoxville since the 2001 season.
- Oct. 4, 2013: Tennessee's first road SEC match of the 2013 season saw the Lady Vols fall 3-0 to UGA in Athens. Lexi Dempsey had a double-double with a career-best 19 digs to go along with 30 assists while Raina Hembry finished with nine kills at a .412 clip.
- Oct. 7, 2012: The only meeting between the two programs in 2012, Tennessee grinded out a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs in front of 1,064 fans at Thompson-Boling Arena. Twenty-seven kills from Kayla Jeter led the way for the Lady Vols and helped them snare the comeback win after falling behind two games to none.
TENNESSEE (7-14, 0-7 SEC)
- Tennessee played its second five-set match of the season on Friday night, coming out on the wrong end of a hard-fought, 3-2 decision at Mississippi State.
- For just the second time this season, three Lady Vols finished the match with double digit kills. Kelsey Bawcombe and Jamie Lea each posted a match-high 17 while Kendra Turner finished with 10. The 17 kills matched Bawcombe's career mark and were just one shy of matching Lea's season-best of 18.
- Bawcombe also had 17 digs on Friday, second on the team behind Megan Hatcher's career-best 25, to record her second career double-double. Sophomore setter Taylor Johnson also recorded a double dip, handing out 34 helpers and 11 digs -- both career-highs -- to complete the feat for the first time in her career.
- With 21 assists on the evening against MSU, Lexi Dempsey moved into eighth place on UT's career assist list. Her assist on a Turner kill in the third set moved her past Allison Stricklin with 1,531 career assists and she now owns 1,541 to her name.
- Lea's 17-kill performance on Friday night pushed her season total to 171, giving her 2.76 per set. That figure is good for 15th in the SEC.
- Tennessee currently ranks fifth in the SEC in digs per set at 14.23. Bridgette Villano leads the squad at 3.34 digs per frame and is followed by Kanisha Jimenez's 2.57.
GEORGIA (9-9, 1-5 SEC)
- Georgia suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 12 Kentucky on Friday night at the Ramsey Center. It was the third straight loss for the Bulldogs and their fifth in the last six matches.
- Against the Wildcats, the UGA offense was led by four players turning in six kills each. One of those players was senior outside hitter Tirah Le'au -- the team's leader in kills at 2.71 per set.
- As a team, Georgia ranks as one of the SEC's top defensive teams at the net. UGA is second in the conference in blocks per set at 2.55, edged only by South Carolina's 2.57.
- Leading the Bulldogs' defensive effort at the net is middle blocker Desiree McCray. The sophomore is averaging 1.35 blocks per set and is third in the SEC in both blocks per set and total blocks (88). Entering the week, she ranked 26th and 44th nationally in those two categories.
- Georgia is 5-4 at the Ramsey Center this season with its last home victory coming as a 3-1 win over defending conference champion Missouri on Oct. 5.
- The Bulldogs are in their fourth season under the guidance of head coach Lizzy Stemke. A former assistant at Nebraska and a Wisconsin grad, Stemke led Georgia to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2004 last season.
