KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
-- Since April 2014, the University of Tennessee compliance office self-reported seven violations of NCAA Bylaws to the Southeastern Conference as part of the athletic department's approach to maintaining an atmosphere of integrity and compliance with NCAA rules.Violations included the following: inadvertently showing a prospective student-athlete on the video board during a basketball game, making phone calls outside of the permissible contact window, responding to text messages from prospective student-athletes outside of the established contact window, and miscalculation of per diem.
"Secondary violations are and will continue to be a byproduct of a healthy compliance program," said associate athletics director for compliance Todd Dooley. "We have a strong culture of compliance throughout our department where every employee views it as their responsibility. Education and monitoring are the cornerstones of Tennessee's compliance program."
The violations were found in the sports of women's basketball, football, men's golf, women's golf, and track and field. A link to the seven recently reported violations along with those from past time windows can be found here: http://www.utsports.com/compliance/boosters/#violations
