TENNESSEE TIDBITS
With the win over the Gators, the Lady Vols remain unbeaten in SEC play and improve to 13-3 on the season, 4-0 in conference play. Tennessee ended a 15-game winning streak at home for Florida.
Tennessee extends its win streak to six games.
Today's attendance was 2,609.
The win was Tennessee's first in a game decided by five points or less since Feb. 11, 2010. The Lady Vols had lost four games with a five-point or less margin since that game. That 2010 game was a 61-58 win at Ole Miss.
FOR STARTERS
Today's starters: freshman Bashaara Graves, senior Taber Spani, sophomore Isabelle Harrison, sophomore Ariel Massengale and junior Meighan Simmons. Simmons is the only Lady Vol to start every game this season.
Massengale was the first to score for Tennessee as she sank two free throws.
Freshman Jasmine Jones was the first off the bench for Tennessee.
DANGLING BAIT
The Lady Vols' snagged three steals from the Gators in the first half and added three more in the second. The Lady Vols notched 32 points in the paint to Florida's 28
Tennessee also scored 13 points off turnovers and 14 points on fast breaks
SPREADING THE OFFENSE
Junior Meighan Simmons led the team with 27 points, the ninth time this season she has been the Lady Vols' leading scorer. Along with Simmons, Graves (17), Massengale (12), and Isabelle Harrison (10) also hit double digits in scoring.
Tennessee dished out 11 assists on the night. Massengale and Graves led the way with four assists each.
AT THE LINE
UT enjoyed a major advantage on free throws, going 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) at the charity stripe while the Gators shot just 6-of-14 (46.2 percent).DOING OK IN OT
Tennessee is 2-0 in overtime games this season. UT also had an 88-81 overtime victory over Middle Tennessee State. Sunday's win was UT's first road overtime victory since defeating Florida, 91-82, on Feb. 3, 2005, in Gainesville.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR GRAVES
With 17 points and 12 rebounds freshman Bashaara Graves recorded her seventh double-double of the season.DRAWING CHARGES
Sophomore Ariel Massengale drew two charges in the game to push her season total to eight.SCORING SIMMONS
Simmons recorded her fourth game this season with 20 or more points and 14th of her career as she racked up a team-best 27 points against the Gators.AT THE HALF
At the half, Simmons led the scoring effort 17 points. Graves was strong in the post with eight points and five boards over 17 first-half minutes.
Massengale had seven points and three assists before halftime.
The Gators outrebounded the Lady Vols in the first 20 minutes of action, 20-17.
The Lady Vols edged Florida in shooting as UT went 15-of-34 (44.1 percent) and UF was 14-of-32 (43.8 percent) in the first half.
UT tallied 20 points in the paint to UT's 12 in the first half.
Tennessee led 37-34 at the half. It was the 11th time this season the Lady Vols have led their opponent at the half.
