Gibson, K.Weekly Set For Canadian Open

The Lady Vols will be well represented at the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championship which starts on Wednesday, July 4. Lauren Gibson will continue to see action on the field and will be joined by Karen Weekly, who will be serving as a Team USA assistant coach.
Weekly, who coached the USA Elite Team earlier this summer, is looking forward to being in the dugout for this major international event which takes place in Surrey, British Columbia.
"I am very excited to keep going with Team USA," said Weekly. "This is a great international tournament and it means a lot of be working with the team in preparation of the world championships."
Gibson comes off the World Cup of Softball championship where she hit .455 as the Eagles second baseman. It is means a lot for Weekly to coach Gibson in an international setting.
"I'm really proud of Lauren," said Weekly. "It means a lot to share these experiences with her with the National Team. To be able to coach Lauren as well as Madison Shipman and Ellen Renfroe with the Elite team are very special times."
USA opens action on Wednesday against Team Venezuela at 6 p.m. ET.
