ATHENS, Ga. - Because of injuries to multiple players and an illness suffered to another, the Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team was unable to compete at Georgia on Saturday and has forfeited the match, 7-0.
ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) rules require a minimum of four players to compete in a match. The Lady Vols have seven players on the roster, and three players are unable to compete because of injury. An illness to another player Friday night has rendered her unable to compete Saturday, putting the team under the required number of participants.
The Lady Vols (13-11, 4-7 SEC) will open SEC Tournament play on Thursday in Oxford, Miss. The bracket will be released Saturday evening.
