Wright Qualifies for NCAAs

Senior diver Michael Wright punched his ticket to the 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on day one of the Zone B Diving Championships on Thursday at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.
The Forest Park, Ill., native posted a two-round score of 743.10 points, good for second place.
"A solid day for Mike and now he is home free and qualified for the NCAAs," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "He had a very strong performance today and we hope that will continue through the rest of the weekend."
Knoxville-native Brent Sterling finished 13th on a score of 616.00 points. Junior Ryan Helms placed 15th with 602.15 points. Jordan Mauney finished 26th with a one-round score of 268.85 points.
"Ryan was off a little today, but fortunately he'll have another chance to qualify tomorrow," Parrington said. "Those guys will all have to step up tomorrow and get it done on 3-meter."
Competition continues Friday with the men's 3-meter preliminaries at 3:30 p.m., followed by the championship round at 5:45 p.m. Live results are available at www.DiveMeets.com.
