KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee softball's final home fall doubleheader, originally scheduled for Sat., Oct. 22, has been cancelled.
There is a remote possibility that the final two contests could be re-scheduled at a later date, but no decision has been made on that issue as of this release.
"We have one chance to recruit a high-profile tournament out in California this weekend and recruiting is the lifeblood of any program," Lady Vol Co-Head Coach Ralph Weekly said. "We attempted to re-schedule the doubleheader for Thurs., Oct. 18, but the other teams couldn't make the trip. We've gotten in some solid work this fall despite having a limited line-up. We were without both Madison Shipman and Kat Dotson as they recover from off-season surgery. We also would have been without Lauren Gibson this weekend since she's currently in Mexico with former Lady Vol Kelly Grieve playing for Team USA at the Pan American Games."
Tennessee will officially christen its 2012 schedule at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., over Feb. 9-12. UT will open its stay at the prestigious event by facing UCSB on Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. PT.
