Tennessee sophomore diver Ryan Helms claimed eighth place in the three-meter springboard championships at the USA Diving Winter Nationals.
Helms took eighth behind an 818.05 combined mark, which is the sum of Thursday's semifinal round score and Saturday's finals mark. He scored a 422.05 score in the finals and a 395.60 in the semifinals.
"I was very pleased with Ryan today," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "He earned eighth place in the country. This was a great experience for him."
The Moultrie, Ga., native also earned second place with partner Aaron Fleshner of Alabama in the men's synchronized three-meter springboard. The pair, competing for the first time as a snychro team, earned second with a 400.26 mark.
"Ryan and Aaron earned a very respectable score," Parrington said. "They did great their first time competing together."
Junior diver Michael Wright competes in the one-meter springboard Monday.
