Wright Claims Sixth at USA Diving National Championships

After making his way into the final round at his first ever USA Diving national championships, Tennessee senior Michael Wright took sixth place in the one-meter event, Thursday, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Wright was the only Vol competing in the championship round of the event and finished with a 364.75 mark.
"This was a big breakthrough for Mike," head UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We are all very excited for him."
Wright Qualifies for One-Meter Championship
Returning senior Michael Wright qualified Thursday for the one-meter championship at the AT&T USA Diving National Championships in Tallahassee, Fla.
Wright placed sixth in the preliminary rounds with a 343.60 mark. This was Wright's first USA Diving senior national championship event.
"This was a big breakthrough for Mike," head UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We are all very excited for him."
Wright is a former National Junior College Athletics Association champion in both the one- and three- meter events. The Forest Park, Ill., native competed at Indian River Community College before transferring to Tennessee for the fall 2008 semester. Sophomore divers Ryan Helms and Brent Sterling also competed in the event. Helms finished 12th with a score of 311.40, while Sterling placed 25th at 258.50.
The championship round of the one-meter event will be held Thursday evening.
