Vols Sign Five Swimmers/Divers
December 03, 2007 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The sixth-ranked Tennessee men???s swimming and diving team signed five new Volunteers for the 2008-09 season. The Vols add Anders Storvik of Austin, Texas, Derek Paul of McCordsville, Ind., Richard (Ricky) Henahan of Rochester, N.Y., Jake Epperson of Toledo, Ohio, and Ryan Helms of Moultrie, Ga.
???This is an exciting group," UT head coach John Trembley said. ???They swim and dive a multitude of events. This will be the first class of Volunteers who will have the benefit of training and competing in the Allan Jone Intercollegiate Aquatic Center for their entire career. That is special for them, and they are a special class for Tennessee???s future.???
Diving Coach Dave Parrington is excited about newcomer diver Helms, who has been invited to the US Olympic Medalist Program for potential medalist.
???I am ecstatic Ryan Helms has signed on to be a Tennessee Volunteer starting next year,??? Parrington said. ???I have observed and followed Ryan???s career since he has been a youngster and have always believed his immense potential?? could be an enormous asset to our team, not only on the boards, but certainly in the class room where he is a stellar student looking forward to a career in the medical field. Ryan???s family have brought him up to be a fine young man whose faith, character, talent and desire to be a Volunteer will make him a perfect fit for the Swimming and Diving team.???
