???We head to the most prestigious swimming and diving invitational of the 2007 calendar year at the Texas Invitational,??? UT head coach John Trembley said. ???Our guys are excited to compete against a great pool of teams, including No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Stanford and No. 25 SMU. We also compete against some great athletes from the University of Wisconsin and Arizona State University.?? We will additionally see some post-graduate athletes since this is an invitational.?? We also look forward to racing some of the top American Olympians and world record holders.?? It is going to be a very fast and exciting competition.???
Coach Trembley hopes this meet will provide some good opportunities for both divers and potential NCAA Championships qualifiers.??
?????On the diving boards and tower, our divers will be hard pressed by a very strong field, similar to the field they will see at the NCAA Championships,??? Trembley said. ???Historically in this competition, the University of Arizona shaves and swims exceedingly fast.?? I know Stanford and Texas will put the speed suits on, as will we.?? We certainly hope to earn several NCAA spots, both individually and on relays.???
After starting the season with two big wins over Auburn and Virginia, Coach Trembley hopes the team can put their success in proper perspective.
???If our team members are, in any way, getting a big head because they've jumped in the polls to 6th nationally, then I think the competition they will face will help them see realistically how well they must swim to continue moving forward,??? Trembley said. ???I am sure we will take some lumps, but hopefully we will force our competitors to take some as well.???
The meet starts Thursday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. as finals follow at 6 p.m. Men???s diving begins at 12:30 with finals at 5:15 p.m.
