The Tennessee men's diving team heads to the Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, Ky., Friday to compete in the SEC Diving Championships.
"We're taking a young and relatively inexperienced squad to Lexington to what will be an extremely exciting competition for freshmen Michael Muscari and Chris Davis, who have yet to compete in the championships," UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "This is, in fact, only Ryan Rincon's second time at SECs. I'm really excited to see how they will respond."
For this competition, Muscari comes off a personal best in the recent meet against Florida, finishing third with 372.00 on the 3-meter boards. In addition, Rincon, a junior, and Davis both will contribute to this weekend's diving effort. The meet includes the platform and is a rare treat for Rincon, who specializes in the event that is excluded from most dual-meets.
"One year ago, Rincon qualified for finals in two of three events-the 3-meter and platform," Parrington said. "Traditionally, platform has been his best event. Without making a true prediction, I feel that Rincon will contend in the 3-meter, the platform and, hopefully, the 1-meter."
The men's 1-meter preliminaries start the meet Friday at 11 a.m. Finals start at 6 that evening. Saturday, the Vols begin 3-meter competition at 2:30 p.m. and the finals follow at 7. Sunday will see the platform preliminaries start at 1 p.m. and the finals at 3:30 p.m.
