The Tennessee men's swimming and diving team is set to do battle against the Cavaliers of Virginia at 1 p.m., in the UT Student Aquatic Center.
The undefeated reigning ACC Champion Cavaliers (4-0, 3-0 ACC) come into Knoxville with a national ranking of 15th as they seek to overthrow the 13th ranked Volunteers (4-0, 2-0 SEC).
"This is an annual competitive event," said UT Coach John Trembley. "It's a coin-toss meet. [Virginia Coach] Mark Bernardino and I competed against each other in high school, so we know each other's tendencies. It is a great rivalry and we will have many competitive races."
Trembley displayed some concern because Virginia produces challenging matchups in the Volunteers' stronger events. However, he predicts that certain events will determine the outcome of the meet.
"This will be a very interesting matchup," said Trembley. "We have some strengths that they share. But there are some events that we're very deep in and they are not, and vice versa. There will be three or four very important swing events."
The Vols defeated the Cavaliers last year 133-85 and lead the series 6-3 since the first meeting in 1985.
"The team that is sharper and crisper, that hits the turns better, and that hits the finish harder will come out on top," said Trembley. "It's really just too close of a matchup to predict right now."
