Baseball America unveiled its list of the nation's top recruiting classes Thursday, and Tennessee's crop of newcomers was rated as the 15th-best in the country. The publication touted the Vols newcomers as a "pitching-rich class" and ranked them as the fourth-best group among Southeastern Conference teams.
Last month, Collegiate Baseball newspaper labeled Tennessee's recruiting class as the 17th-best in the nation.
"This gives us our second straight consensus top-20 class," UT head coach Rod Delmonico said. "We're in the middle of fall practice now so we've had a chance to get a look at what this group brings to the table.
"Overall I've been pleased with the effort and work ethic the team has shown. We've got a lot of work to do before the season arrives, but there's no question that some of our new players will have a chance to contribute right away."
Tennessee fans will have their first chance to get a glimpse of the 2007 Volunteers Friday, Oct. 20, as the team is slated to play an intrasquad Orange & White game beginning at 6 p.m. at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Admission to the game is free.
