NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee sophomore Tyler Gustafson, competing for Tennessee Aquatics, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials Sunday while competing in the 2004 Nashville Aquatic Club Summer Sizzler at the Centennial Sportsplex.
Gustafson finished the 100-meter freestyle in 51.18 seconds during the preliminary round to earn a chance to compete at the Olympic Trials in July. The Summer Sizzler Invitational was the last opportunity for Americans to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Gustafson was the seventh Volunteer to qualify for the trials.
"This is a good opportunity for Tyler," UT head coach John Trembley said.
The U.S. Olympic Trials will be held July 7-14 in Long Beach, Calif.
