Hochevar Invited to Team USA Tryouts

USA Baseball announced today that University of Tennessee pitcher Luke Hochevar was one of the final six collegiate players that have been invited to participate in the 2004 USA Baseball National Team Trials to be held June 20-26 in the Durham, N.C. The USA Baseball National Team will be selected from the pool of 36 players. The official 20-man team roster will be selected following the trials June 27.
The National Team will open play June 23 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7 p.m. ET versus Canada. Team USA will also play an additional seven games in Durham, along with several more domestic exhibition games prior to representing the United States at 2004 II FISU World University Baseball Championships in Chinese Taipei, July 25-August 1.
Hochevar becomes the first Volunteer to go to the team trials since Javi Herrera made the 2001 team. Tennessee has had five players make the National Team since Todd Helton in 1993. R.A. Dickey and Augie Ojeda won Bronze medals with the Olympic team in 1996, while Chris Burke played on the 2000 squad.
Frank Cruz, head coach of Loyola Marymount, will manage the team.
