Tennessee freshman diver Jevon Tarantino was named the SEC's Diver of the Week for the period ending Jan. 5, following his efforts at the Georgia Diving Invitational held Jan. 3-5.
Tarantino won both the one-meter and three-meter events in a meet considered by many to be a preview for the NCAA Championships. In the three-meter competition,Tarantino was 38 points behind going into the finals but managed a come-from-behind win to overtake Caesar Garcia of Auburn. The following day Tarantino held off teammate Phillip Jones to secure the one-meter title.
"The wins on both boards at Georgia against an exceptional field was a big boost for Jevon," head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "His strong performance was very deserving of the award."
Next up for the Volunteers is a road trip to Virginia to face the No. 11-ranked Cavaliers on Jan. 10.
