HUNTERSVILLE, NC. -- The Tennessee diving duo of Phillip Jones and Jevon Tarantino finished third at the USA Diving World Cup Trials Friday at the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic Center Friday.
For the first time in competition together as a team, the Vol diving pair finished third in the 3-meter synchronized diving event with 577.41 points. They held first place going into the last dive, but faltered, allowing the pre-meet favorites, Troy and Justin Dumais, to take the spot on the World Cup Diving Team.
"I'm a little frustrated because we had the title within grasp," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "But I'm pleased that our guys served notice to the rest of the field. They really had a good competition from the standpoint that this was their first competition as a synchronized team."
Both divers will compete individually Sunday on the 3-meter board.
