Tennessee junior Phillip Jones won SEC Diver of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 12. In a dual meet at Virginia Jan. 10, Jones set two pool records on his way to winning both diving events.
Jones won the one-meter title by putting up an impressive score of 338.85, then followed up with a 391.50 on the three-meter board, where he is the defending NCAA champion. Both of Jones' wins topped pool records previously held by former Vol diver and three-time Olympian Gabi Chereches.
"I am very proud of Phillip's award. Certainly his performance is deserving of the award," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "This is a good confidence booster for the World Cup team tryouts."
Jones will be competing in the USA Diving World Cup Trials in Huntsville, N.C., Friday through Sunday.
