Brandon Crump and Casey Dauw have received honors from Edamerica and the University of Tennessee for their respective athletic and academic efforts during the month of December.
Crump was named Edamerica Athlete of the Month for his rim-rocking December. A junior on the Vols basketball team, Crump averaged 18.8 points and 7.2 rebounds while leading the Vols to a 5-1 record during December. He led the Vols in scoring and rebounding in four of the team's six December games, shooting 66 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the foul line.
The lone loss, however, was a memorable game for the 6-foot-10 forward from Houston when he poured in a career-high 25 points in Tennessee's loss at Nebraska. He also set a new career-high in blocked shots with five against The Citadel, while tying his career mark in rebounds with 11 versus UNC-Asheville.
Crump helped the Vols to an 8-1 record heading into Southeastern Conference play with his 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, both ranking second on the team. He has 20 blocks on the season, twice as many as anyone on the team.
Casey Dauw was named Edamerica Scholar-Athlete of the Month for December. The sophomore swimmer from St. Charles, Ill., majors in biology.
In the pool, Dauw, who participates in the freestyle and individual medley, found success at Kentucky to kick off his second season with the Vols. He won the 200 IM before returning to Knoxville to win the 1000 freestyle, 200 IM and 500 backstroke against Indiana. He has already qualified for the NCAA Championships courtesy of his win in the 500-yard freestyle at the Nike Cup Invitational.
Dauw was an honorable mention All-America last year thanks to his work with the 800 freestyle relay team that placed 11th at NCAAs.
