PARRINGTON TO COACH U.S. AT FINA DIVING GRAND PRIX

THE WOODLANDS, Texas
University of Tennessee Diving Coach Dave Parrington has been selected to serve as a coach for the U.S. team at the Speedo FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix, May 8-11, at the Woodlands, Texas.
Lady Vol junior-to-be Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.) had qualified to compete on the 3m springboard at the event but withdrew due to injury, as did Vol junior Phillip Jones. McCalley earned her bid to the grand prix meet by placing third on the 3m at the USA Diving World Championship Team Trials, April 10-13, in Athens, Ga.
"It is certainly a great honor to represent the United States as a coach at such a prestigious competition," Parrington said. "For me, not being born in the U.S. but rather a naturalized citizen, it may be an even greater honor. It is unfortunate that Lauryn and Phillip will not be competing, but I will still be looking forward to working with many of the top athletes in the world."
Coaching at the Grand Prix adds to Parrington's long list of accomplishments, as he has coached at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, 1997 and 1999 World Cup, 1994, 1998 and 2001 World Championships, 1994 and 1998 Commonwealth Games and 1999 Pan-American Games. Recently, he received the honor of 2003 SEC Women's Diving Coach of the Year, marking the eighth time he has received the accolade on either the men's or women's side.
