DURBAN, South Africa -- Former University of Tennessee swimmer, Chris Stewart, earned two silver medals at the 2003 Telkom South African National Aquatic Championships. The meet was held at the Kings Park Pool Complex where Stewart qualified for the 10th FINA World Championships, which will take place in Barcelona, Spain in July.
Stewart earned his qualifying spot by swimming a personal-best time of 28.81 in the 50-meter breaststroke. "I am pretty happy with my swim considering I haven't trained in a long-course pool for over a year," Stewart said. "I will now be aiming for the Olympic qualifying times at the world championships."
Stewart ended the meet by earning his second silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:03.02. That time was only 0.13 seconds off another world championship qualifying time.
"There is still plenty of room for improvement," Stewart said.
