AUBURN, Ala. -- Tennessee sophomore Phillip Jones continued to dive well by finishing second on the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone B Championships in Auburn, Ala.
"I feel pretty good right now, head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "We have accomplished a lot so far. This meet is about qualifying for NCAAs and that's what we are doing."
Jones scored 593.05 points, just behind Kentucky's Clayton Moss who had 664.55 points. Jones, who already qualified yesterday, will not dive the 10-meter platform event tomorrow to rest up for his trip to Austin for the NCAA Championships.
Senior co-captain Jake Dorsey placed 13th with a score of 501.55. His effort was a career best and tomorrow he will compete in his best event, the 10-meter platform.
"I am pleased with Jake's performance today, Parrington said. "With a deep field, Jake dove extremely well. He was very consistent and dove to a career best"
Sophomore Sal Vilardo, who did not compete yesterday due to injury, put together a gutsy performance today on the 3-meter springboard. Vilardo came in 20th-place with a score of 268.25.
The diving championships conclude Sunday with the platform event.
