ATHENS, Ga.
The 13th-rated University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer tennis team dropped its third consecutive road match to No. 1 Georgia on Saturday at the Dan Mafill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The top-rated Bulldogs blanked UT, 7-0 capturing all six singles matches in straight-sets. The loss drops Tennessee to a 7-4 Southeastern Conference mark and 16-8 overall heading into next week's SEC Tournament. Georgia captured the league regular season title with the win and improves to 21-1 overall and 11-0 in SEC play.
Georgia jumped out to an early lead after taking the doubles point and cruised from there. Tennessee's only win on the afternoon was at No. 1 doubles when Crystal Cleveland and Alison Ojeda dealt Agata Cioroch and Lori Grey an 8-3 setback. The Lady Vols were once again without Kim Gates and co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick opted to hold Ojeda out of the singles lineup.
Up next, Tennessee will open play at the SEC tournament in Columbia, S.C. on April 18. The tourney runs through April 21 and will be played at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center.
