Auburn Defeats Vols To Win Series

Knoxville, Tenn. -- Jonathan Schuerholz went 4-for-5 and Bobby Huddleston belted a two-run home run as the No. 19 Auburn Tigers pounded out 15 hits in an 8-1 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium to win the weekend series.
Colby Paxton, Ken Clayton and Cory Dueitt combined on the four hitter for Auburn which improved to 20-6 overall and 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference.
Paxton (6-1) allowed one run on three hits in five innings, while Clayton and Dueitt shutout the Vols over the final four innings on one hit.
Nick Crowe drove in the only run for Tennessee (13-15, 1-5 SEC) in the fifth as Jordan Czarniecki scored after walking and stealing second.
Walter Sevilla, Dennis Gomez and Matt Sternberg collected the other three hits for the Volunteers.
Jeffery Terrell (2-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings, as the Vols continue to struggle to score runs when he pitching, plating one or none in five of his last six starts.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the third on a ground out by Huddleston, Auburn broke the game open with a three-run fourth keyed by Chuck Jeroloman's two-run double. Jeroloman scored one batter later on Javon Moran's single to left center for a 4-0 lead.
Following the Tennessee tally in the fifth, the Tigers tacked on two more in the seventh on a fielders choice and a single by Sean Gamble before Huddleston's third home run in the eighth capped the scoring at 8-1.
Tennessee's next action will be at Athens, Ga., for a three-game series against the Georgia Bulldogs, Mar. 29-31.
