LADY VOLS DROP CONSOLATION MATCH AT NATIONAL TEAM INDOORS

The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Wake Forest University on Saturday in consolation play at the USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis. Tennessee, now 4-3, also suffered a 4-3 loss to the Demon Deacons on Feb. 2.
Co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick used a different lineup in the loss by moving the pairing of Vilmarie Castellvi and Agnes Wiski to the No. 1 position and playing the 12th-rated pairing of Alison Ojeda and Crystal Cleveland at the No. 2 slot. The gamble did not seem to pay-off, as Castellvi and Wiski suffered an 8-5 setback to the No. 3 ranked tandem of Bea Bielik and Janet Bergman. Ojeda and Cleveland pulled off an 8-4 defeat of Maren Haus and Aimee Smith, but the Demon Deacons clinched the doubles point when Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz got the better of Kim Gates and Brooke Cordell at the third slot.
In singles play, Wiski captured a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 triumph at No. 4 to prevent the shutout, but the match had already been decided as Wake captured the other five contests. No. 12 Bergman avenged the loss Castellvi dealt her a week ago by taking a 7-6, 6-1 victory.
The Lady Vols will next be in action on Feb. 14 as they look to rebound at Michigan.
