Vols Advance With 10-2 Win Over USC

Omaha, Neb. - Wyatt Allen tossed eight solid innings as Jeff Christensen went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to propel the Tennessee Volunteers to a 10-2 victory over the Southern California Trojans at the College World Series. With the win, Tennessee (48-19) will play Miami (51-12) on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. USC finishes its season at 45-19. The Vols must defeat the Hurricanes twice, once on Thursday and once on Friday to make it to the title game Saturday.
Allen (10-3) rebounded from the worst start of his career against Miami on Saturday to shut down the Trojans, holding them to two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Anthony Reyes (5-4) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) in 4 1/3 innings.
Ryan Case put the Vols on the board with a three-run home run in the second, his third of the year, while Christensen drove home Stevie Daniel as Tennessee took a 4-0 lead in the third.
Chris Burke scored on a wild pitch in the fifth after reaching on a wind-blown infield single and advancing to third on Daniel's base hit. Daniel then gave the Vols a 6-0 lead on Christensen's double.
The Trojans plated two runs in the sixth on a single by Brian Barre and a fielders choice to cut the lead to 6-2
Christensen then unloaded with his 12th home run, a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to 8-2.
The Vols added two insurance runs in the eighth on a Brandon Hopkins single and the second Trojan error to make it 10-2.
