Vols Flatten Ole Miss, 8-2

OXFORD-Kris Bennett and Jeff Christensen went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Tennessee Volunteers to an 8-2 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
With the win the Volunteers move to 21-6 on the season and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play. The win guarantees the Vols a series win over the Rebels who drop to 13-8 on the year and 2-3 in the league.
Kris Bennett extended his current hitting streak to 19 games after pounding out three hits on the night. Jeff Christensen extended is own hitting streak to 11 games after punching out three hits and two RBI.
Tennessee jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second after Jeff Baumtrog hit a RBI single to score John Massey and Brandon Hopkins. The Vols scored five runs in the final three innings to seal the victory.
Sophomore pitcher Brian Gates had a stellar evening on the mound as he struckout five batters in 8 1/3 innings in his first start for the Vols. Gates improved his season record to 4-1 while Mississippi's Ronnie Goodwin fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Tennessee will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon when they face Ole Miss in the final game of the three-game series. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. (EST) at University Stadium in Oxford, Miss.
